  • extensive overseas experience, and· in depth multi-disciplinary experience across the Australian industry;

Paul has been involved in small and large scale operations in Australia, Zambia, London, Papua New Guinea and China. Initial industry experience was gained in the Uranium recovery sector before moving on to the Lead Smelting business. His career developed to encompass positions at all levels of mining and industrial companies. As a manager and leader he has been accountable for the operational control of revenue budgets as high as A$140 million and capital project budgets (in aggregate) of greater magnitudes.

As Chairman of the Karratha College Council, an independent college in North West of Western Australia and as Chairman of the Pilbara Development Commission he demonstrated commitment to community and regional development across a broad range of interests.

Paul has demonstrated sound abilities in dealing with people at all strata of Business and Government. The ability to manage and perform in cross-cultural environments is proven. This has been achieved while living and working in Australia and as a minority in foreign countries.

In his most recent roles he was Managing Director of a large Caterpillar Dealership in WA before transferring to China to establish a new Caterpillar Dealership in the North East of the People’s Republic of China. He returned to Perth when a Chinese replacement was found. The dealership was established and Paul returned to Perth in 2002.

Chinese Experience

From April 1984 to November 1987 Paul was the Team Leader for a Technical Co-operation Programme between the Dexing Copper Mine, in the Jiangxi Province of the People’s Republic of China. The Chinese aim was to turn Dexing Copper into the Bougainville Copper of China.

Process and Mining Improvements were achieved in line with the recognised good practice of Bougainville Copper. A considerable amount of time was spent lecturing on Australian management practices during the period.

The Programme included the co-ordination of other specialists visiting Dexing and the management of on-site Bougainville training for more than 150 Chinese.

The Dexing people were very pleased with the results.

In 2000 the position of Chairman & CEO was undertaken to establish a new Caterpillar Dealership in N.E. China. The Dealership was created against a backdrop of a language and cultural issues and a less friendly operating environment.

The experience developed a sound understanding of the Chinese environment at a time of major change in the country.
